4º PART

There are
several ways to make DOONEE's
special ball. Here you will see a cheap, fast and easy
way to make a COR whose weight oscillates between
one and 2 pounds.
This COR will be formed only by
its external part: the 3 circular rings,
because for
training's pourposes this ball is perfect. If possible,
try to buy materials for
three balls at
least. Doing this way you will be able to
voluntarily vary COR's sizes and weights and also
save money.

NEEDED MATERIALS for one COR
1) 42 inches of a "high pressure WATER HOSE" with diameters of 3/8; or 1/2 or 3/4 inches for each COR. This hose comes in colors: rose, green, transparent, blue, red, etc.
2) 6 blow rivets of 2 1/4 inches of length each one by 1/8 inches of wide, as far as possible of aluminum. Rivets are much better than screws or bolts.
3) 12 flat washers with a 1/8 inches hole, suitable for the rivets. The diameter of the washers should be about 3/4 inches by 1/16 inches of thickness.
4) Some 3/4 inches "Plastic insulating tapes" used for electric wires. Choose them in colors.
5) Some small stones to give more weight to the COR, filling up the hose with them, always according to the COR's weight you want.

A few NECESSARY TOOLS
1) A striker pin to bore the hose. If you don't have a striker pin you can use a nail or a drill.
2) A sharpened knife with end, to enlarge or to clear each one of the holes done with the striker pin.
3) One clamp to drain the length of the rivets.
4) A small hammer to close the rivets once these have been cut, in order to prevent washers to escape.
5) One or two mechanical pliers just to help you putting the rivets and the washers.

PROCEDURE
The MAKING of a COR step by step:
1) Cut the 42 inches hose in 3 equal pieces of 14 inches each one.
2) At one inch of each end of the hose, make a hole that crosses that hose from the outside to the inside. Then curve the hose in a perfect circular form and place a single rivet crossing and joining both ends.
3) Previously, this first rivet needs flat washers in both ends. Then cut and close the rivet, striking on it. The COR's first ring is ready.
4) Before closing a rubber ring (with the corresponding rivet), fill that ring with some stuff material (like little stones) in order to give more weight to the COR, only if you want so.
5) The other 2 rings are made the same way. Nevertheless, you must take care to interlace these 3 ring among them, before placing and closing the rivets. Remember these 3 rings MUST give a perfect ball.
6) Once completed the first ring, you have to make all the remaining holes for all the three rings, each hole at a distance of 10 inches approximately, for the 40 inches of the hose length overall.
7) When the third ring is completed, it must be placed to interlace itself with the other two rings, in such a way that between those three ring is formed a perfect sphere.
8) Finally, in order to protect the hands of the players cover, with several cross-turns of the insulating tape, the places where are the 6 rivets with its washers. Doing this, your COR is ready to play.
